Locker 27 raises funds for The Clubhouse Project hosting festive Dodgeball Tournament…

Whilst many were out hitting the high street to finish their Christmas shopping, local gym Locker 27 were in the spirit of giving hosting their annual festive Dodgeball Tournament which aimed to raise funds for local charity, The Clubhouse Project – set up to support young disabled adults by providing a varied and stimulating environment which match the individual’s preferences.

The day was kicked off by the ‘Buddy the Elf’ Tournament, set up for under 16s to come and show their dodgeball skills. The bar was set instantly, with the gym’s Academy – set up for 9-16 year olds from the local and surrounding areas – putting forth three teams that showed a fearless and spirited performance. A final showdown between teams ‘#YOLO’ and ‘TOWIT’ (The Only Way is Tunbridge) showed a valiant effort between both teams with TOWIT edging their competitors to take the 2013 Academy crown.

Commencing in the evening, and following a quick lesson in the rules and regulations, the adult tournament was underway with 8 teams in total in fancy dress – including one from the Dodgeball Premier League! With each game taking 2 minutes, the tournament saw not only a great effort from all teams but some great team names including ‘The Dodgefathers’ and ‘Wrong Direction’ battle it out to be crowned 2013 champions. The evening ended up seeing the latter take the title, no doubt helped by being made up of past and current Surrey County Cricket pros!

Matt Church, Director of Locker 27 had set up the tournament: “Being able to put this event on and donate proceeds from it to aid The Clubhouse Project means a lot to myself and the charity. We definitely look forward to seeing what ideas we can come up with next to help their cause!”
