We are a British Weight Lifting affiliated Weightlifting Club running since December 2014 under the expert coaching of Mark Hill, British Weightlifting Coach & Referee and Level 4 Specialist Exercise Instructor.

Why Join the Locker 27 Weightlifting Club

The Club gives people the opportunity to get together in the coached classes and lift for fun or work towards a personal goal or competition.

Locker 27 Members, Non Members and British Weightlifting affiliated members are all welcome to join the Locker 27 Weightlifting Club whether on a membership or as a drop in.

New to Weightlifting?

Have you ever wanted to give Weightlifting a go and learn the fundamentals of the sport? Not everyone wants to compete at Weightlifting and are happy to lift for fun. Our beginners class on Fridays is great for anyone wanting to give it a try and learn the lifts from the very beginning.

Our Coach Katey Byrd, Runnymede’s Sports Personality of the year, 2nd placed Irish Champ & 6th placed British Champ will teach you the skill of Weightlifting.

  • Technique from the very beginning
  • Learn how to Clean & Jerk and to Snatch
  • Develop your back squat

Club Training

Our weekday Club Training sessions are led by one of our qualified coaches. Members have the chance to book onto their choice of two time slots. In these sessions, members train together and follow a group programme.

We believe that the benefits of a group of people training together and performing the same exercises outweigh the benefits of participating in an individualised training programme. However, coaches will adapt and scale exercises for members where appropriate.

Our Saturday (Super Saturday!) session is an open session that is not led by a coach and regularly features visiting members from other weightlifting clubs.

Friday Weightlifting

Our Friday Weightlifting session is more technically focused. It is suitable for beginning weightlifters and those looking to improve a specific lift or part of their technique. This session runs on a themed 3-week programme which is designed to improve one part of a lift.
